Purrfect Cat Rescue has permanently ceased all operations. We closed at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis but have maintained this page in an effort to direct people to other organizations that may be able to offer help and resources. Because other groups have closed as well or changed their services, there is no guarantee the information on our Resources page is current. Still, we will leave this site up until April 1, 2021, when our online presence will end.
It has been a true labor of love for both the officers and volunteers of PCR to serve the community. Our junior members gave no less than a decade of their lives to this full-time non-paying job, while the founders of the group had already put in anywhere from 5 to 15 years of prior service with other local groups. Rescue is physically and emotionally demanding work and while there are moments of great satisfaction and joy, it can also involve extremely unpleasant situations and circumstances that will test your resolve.
To make it work is dependant on dedicated volunteers. It was our struggle the past few years in finding good volunteers to continue our work that led to our decision to close, a decision that has left many feeling bittersweet, and some confused or frustrated.
Many small rescues are hampered by their finances, but we were fortunate enough not to be one of them. Remarkably, we always managed to find enough money to feed, medicate and medically care for hundreds of our own foster cats each year, as well as spay and neuter hundreds of the public's cats through our low-cost spay and neuter program. That luck and success make it all the more disappointing for us that we were forced to cease operations because of a lack of volunteers.
We hope the public will consider volunteering with other struggling non-profits, and that the groups that continue in our absence will treasure the best of their volunteers because they are your most valuable asset, far more so than donations even. Money does not bring in the talent, talent brings in the money.
